Feelings (without actually stating them)

The whistle blows. Everyone instantly reacts in unison to start yet another day. All things are timed to perfection. 1,2,3,1...1,2,3,2...1,2,3,3...1,2,3,4...1,2,3,5 is the count that fills the air. The thunderous sound of popping and crunching echoes across the field. It is a grind, a daily grind of toughness, intensity, and focus. Plays are called in the huddles on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Linebackers shout audibles and formations to everyone, the ball is snapped, the hits occur for a brief 3-5 seconds. Then it is back to the huddle once again for the scout team offense and first string defense. As time passes, the roles eventually reverse. The first string offense lines up against the first string defense; however, my role as an offensive lineman does not change. For the entire practice my role does not change. I am the weak-side offensive tackle. A position on the offensive line, and like all positions on the offensive line, the day is a gridiron grind. For the past two weeks the lower back has experienced an extreme constant pain. However, on Friday night, Glory hangs in the balance. A trip to the Georgia Dome, an experience of a lifetime, and an extension of perfection define this glory. However, Victory is what must be achieved in order to gain such rewards. Summer workouts, football camp, practice, season games, and the study of films have all brought my team to this point. We have won 12 games in all. We NEED 13...

Simplicity to Complexity

Prompt: Describe the board in different ways (go from the simple to the complex)

Description 1: The board in front of me is white. It is also a rectangle. It is on a white wall. It has a silver tray that holds erasers. It is big.

Description 2: The board in front of me is white with a silver lining around the edges. On the bottom edge there is a tray for the erasers to sit upon. It is very large, thus, it takes up most of the wall's space (i'd say it takes up a ballpark amount of about 60%). Along the top of the board there are fake leaves hung to represent the season and there is a strip of tan colored material. This material is probably used to tack things upon itself so that certain things can be displayed for the class to see.

Description 3: The board in front of me is white with a silver lining around the edges. On the bottom edge there is a tray for the erasers to sit upon. It is very large, thus, it takes up most of the wall's space (i'd say it takes up a ballpark amount of 60%). Along the top of the board there are fake leaves hung to represent the season and there is a strip pf tan colored material. This material appears to be used to tack things upon itself so that certain things can be displayed for the class to see. The board also provides symbolic representation. Many would probably describe it as boring, which it is in its initial appearance. However, it also represents many other things. It represents a new beginning, a "clean slate" if you will. In this sense it represents forgiveness. When a person is given a "clean slate" they are given a new chance for oppurtunity and that there old mistakes, problems, and wrongdoings are forgotten. This leads up to the fact that the board represents God's love. Jesus sacrificed himself for us so that our sins could be cleansed. That is why we as human beings should not fear death. God loves us and Jesus takes care of us. Some people fear judgement day for the fear that their sins will revisit them. However, they forget that Jesus makes us perfect. His presence makes us perfect. If we believe in him and love him the way that we should, then when we see him in heaven he will make us perfect. This is what God's love is. This is what the board can represent if one thinks about it hard enough. It's funny to imagine that such a thing could be derived from something as simple as a blank board, but that's the beauty of nature. It can appear as the simple, but represent the complex.

Blog Assignment on Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Self-Reliance"

"These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world." This quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Self-Reliance". This quote sounds unique in an odd, but good way. Many would read it and just ignore it. Others would read it, think about it for a second, and then forget about it because they don't understand it. When a person really thinks about this quote, they begin to understand how meaningful it really is. It talks about an individual's concience (some call it their "gut feeling"). An inner voice that helps guide us through Life. Some people would tell you that this is nuts to even think this, but think about it. We think about things to ourselves all the time. Sometimes we sit back and say "Man! I knew that I should not have done that!" Why do you say this? Why do you blurt something like this out? Because your concience told you not to. You knew better because your concience told you not to. It's true isn't it? When we get amongst our peers, there are times were we commit acts that we would never think of doing, but because it's considered "cool" and we're in a group, we do the wrong things. I'm not trying to preach, and I'm certainly not perfect (although I try to be), but what I am saying is that people need to listen to their feelings more often. Do what you believe is right. When you really think about it, wouldn't this make life much easier...?

A Universal Truth That Is Actually False

General Robert E. Lee was not the commander of the Confederate Army during the civil war. He was not the commander because of the advice of the other generals of his army. The Confederate Army was commanded by a group of generals. The best examples are General Longstreet and General 'Stonewall' Jackson. Jackson was the first commander that General Lee relied on. His decisions were not only his, but those of Jackson's as well. His decisions were made with the support of all of his officers; therefore he was not the commander of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

What is an American?

"American". This is a term that is very common in our society. But what is an American? An American is more than just a person who lives in the United States. It means something significant and it is something that does not have a clean-cut definition. An American is an ideal, a value. An American is a value of pride, bravery, courage, wisdom, righteousness, charity, and spirit. When someone says "I am an American" it means all of these elements. I am an American, and I am proud to be an American.
